BLOOMINGTON – As Bloomington nears a primary election to narrow the field of mayoral candidates, one candidate is saying the city needs to be “brilliant in the basics.”
Diana Hauman told WJBC that’s something she picked up from a former manager. She added the city already has great police and fire protection.
“Those are the really the two basic things we’re charged with, in terms of a city,” said Hauman. “The infrastructure certainly is important and we’re looking at the 10 to 20 year capital improvement plan.”
Hauman explained once the capital improvement plan is done, the trick is funding it. She said finding the funds will depend on the proper balance of basic needs, infrastructure and quality of life services.
Hauman has been Ward 8 alderman since September 2014. She said it would be tough for some who hasn’t been on the council to succeed as mayor.
“You get to see how things happen; how the staff works with the council, how the staff works with themselves,” Hauman said.
Hauman also wants to fuel economic development in the city. She believed they need to be marketing Bloomington-Normal as one community, which will help bring people and businesses to the region.
