PEORIA – Illinois Republicans in Congress are split on whether the plan to move past Obamacare care is on the right path.
U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood (R-Peoria) said he’s “not there yet” and “skeptical” of the Republican plan.
LaHood is quick to say voters want ‘repeal and replace’ and they want a plan to lower the cost of health care. The plan in Congress doesn’t deliver.
“There are some fundamental changes in this plan that I think are good, but I think we have a lot longer way to go with this,” LaHood said. “People wanted real change and real results when it comes to health care. I’m not sure this is the end result that we want.”
LaHood said he wants to see how proposed changes to Medicaid and new government subsidies play out.
“Medicaid and the tax credits. Can those be tweaked; can those be altered; can we fix those? Those are questions I’m looking to have answered as this process moves along,” LaHood said.
LaHood is not alone in being hesitant about the plan. Other Illinois Republicans also say they’re not so sure.
But at least one Republican leader in Illinois, suburban Rep. Peter Roskam, said he thinks the plan is good for Illinois.
Roskam said the plan “empowers individuals and families” to make the healthcare choices on their own.
