BLOOMINGTON – U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois is calling President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Iranian nuclear deal as reckless, but two Central Illinois Republican lawmakers are praising the move.
Duckworth, a Democrat, said in a statement the 2015 agreement negotiated by the Obama Administration was far from perfect, but abandoning it threatens to destroy years of non-proliferation efforts, isolates the U.S. from its allies, and undermines U.S. efforts to use diplomacy to negotiate future agreements.
Republican Congressman Rodney Davis said in a statement that the deal was unverifiable because the Obama Administration went from ‘anytime, anywhere’ inspections to ‘self-inspections.’
GOP Congressman Adam Kinzinger said the deal was terrible for the U.S., and provided a treasure trove for the Iranian regime to fund terrorists.
Kinzinger wants the Trump Administration to come up with a comprehensive plan to hold Iran accountable and firmly restrict Iran’s ballistic missile weapons and nuclear program.
