NORMAL – Authorities say four people were hurt when a sport utility vehicle crashed through the front of Moe’s Southwest Grill in north Normal Tuesday.

The accident happened just before 11:30 a.m. in the 1700 block of Bradford Lane, just off Raab Road

Normal Fire Department spokesperson Matt Swaney says the driver of the SUV and two restaurant customers were transported to Advocate BroMenn Medical Center. A fourth person was treated at the scene, but did not go to the hospital. Swaney said no one suffered life-threatening injuries.

Swaney said the situation could have been worse had it happened about a half-hour later during the lunch hour.

“This is unfortunate for the business, but if this happened at 12:30 or the middle of their lunch rush it could have been so much worse,” Swaney added.

Approximately 14 people were in the dining area at the time of the crash.

A dollar estimate of damage is not available, and the restaurant will be closed for a while.

Authorities do not think the crash was intentional, but they’re still investigating.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

By Mike Matejka Because of COVID, there is no Labor Day Parade this year.  It’s always a great event for our everyday workers to march proudly down the street and enjoys the festive crowd. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
