SPRINGFIELD – Former Congressman Aaron Schock got some attention recently and fueled speculation he wants his old seat in Congress back.
Schock represented Peoria, part of the Springfield area, and western Illinois for six years, resigning as an investigation bore down on his spending. The feds finally dropped the charges and made an agreement for Schock to pay a fine.
But someone noticed a federal filing for a Schock for Congress committee for the same 18-th District he used to serve and which is now represented by U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood (R-Dunlap).
Schock told the Peoria Journal Star all that’s happened is the committee – a vehicle to pay his massive legal bills – has changed treasurers. Schock told the paper he is now the treasurer, because the account is so small now that it does not require outside management.
