Springfield man receives bronze star medal

A Springfield native received the Bronze Star Medal yesterday at the Illinois Military Academy.

Sergeant Alexander Lawson garnered the award for exceptional service while he was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as a signal officer.

Lawson's focus in Afghanistan was the care and support of all soldiers in the field, especially the ones furthest from the headquarters.

He was also the key facilitator in overseeing the implementation of Afghanistan's new communications infrastructure.

Lawson is currently assigned to the Joint Force Headquarters in Springfield.
