The 2010 Illinois Pork Producers Association (IPPA) Visioning Session on Tuesday, July 20th features a presentation by well known economist Dr. Steve Meyer. Pork producers and pork industry representatives in Illinois will also have an opportunity to provide input and direction on programs and activities by attending the IPPA Visioning Session.
The Visioning Session is open to ALL pork producers and pork industry partners and will be held in the Illini Auditorium at the University of Illinois Extension Building #30, located on the State Fairgrounds in Springfield, IL.
The program will begin with registration at 12:30 PM. At 1:00 PM the Visioning Session will begin with the Pork Act Election, which is the election of pork producer delegate candidates for the 2011 National Pork Act Annual meeting.
Following the election, IPPA staff will be providing an update on IPPA programs and activities and allow attendees an opportunity to review current IPPA programs and discuss new goals and priorities, while providing comments to IPPA staff and board members. This input will help shape the organization’s 2011 budget in the checkoff and noncheckoff program areas of: Youth; Marketing/Image; Public Policy; Production Technology/ Research; and Association Services & County Outreach activities.
To make better use of producers’ time, IPPA has combined the Visioning Session with an educational program beginning at 4:30 PM. Dr. Steve Meyer, President of Paragon Economics, will give an economic update and market outlook for the pork and grain markets and discuss risk management strategies that pork producers can use.
A meal will be served at 5:30 PM, and the session will conclude by 6:30 PM.
“IPPA is truly a grassroots organization. The Visioning Session will allow producers a chance to discuss suggested changes to IPPA programs and services and provide direction on the development of the 2011 IPPA budget,” said Brent Scholl, IPPA President and pork producer from Polo, IL.
Advance registration is requested ASAP to allow for preparation of meals. There is no charge to attend and all pork producers and industry representatives are invited to participate.
“I hope producers will make plans to attend this important meeting to help prioritize the IPPA’s programs and resources to best meet the needs of Illinois pork producers and address the many issues facing the pork industry.”
