Ameren launches utility assistance program

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- Ameren Illinois has launched a program to help nonprofit groups and other eligible organizations pay their utility bills. Ameren announced the assistance program on Wednesday. The electric utility says it will accept applications for the Non-Residential Hardship Fund between Aug. 2 and Sept. 10. Applications are available on the Ameren website or by calling the utility.
Eligible nonprofit groups must have been Ameren customers since Jan. 1, 2009. They would includes schools, senior centers or churches. Assistance also is available for small, independently owned businesses.
Ameren says this is the last year of the program, which is in its fourth year.
