BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington Edge, presented by Heller Ford, are winding down training camp in preparation for their first game against the division rival Chicago Slaughter on Sunday in Hoffman Estates.
The Edge, formerly the Bloomington Extreme, have made the playoffs five consecutive years, and appeared in the United Bowl after the 2008 season, but have lost in the first round of the playoffs each of the last three years.
The Edge have a number of familiar faces back in the fold, notably among them quarterback Dusty Burk, who had served as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator the past two seasons, and head coach Kenton Carr, who was let go during the 2010 season. Carr replaces Mike Murray, who led the team to a 9-5 record in his first year, but resigned during the off season.
Also returning to the Edge are kicker Peter Christofilakos, receiver John Cooper, and reigning Indoor Football League Defensive Player of the Year Antonio “Hollywood” Ficklin.
The Edge opener can be heard at 3:05 p.m. Sunday on WJBC.com. The Edge home opener is Feb. 26 at 2:05 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
Edge coach Kenton Carr talked with WJBC’s Craig Fata Wednesday.
