Army Sgt. Kristen Cyrier-Smith

Army Sgt. Kristen Cyrier-Smith has returned to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., after being deployed to Iraq serving in support of Operation New Dawn.

Members from all branches of the U.S. military and multinational forces were also assisting in rebuilding Iraq’s economic and governmental infrastructure, and training and preparing Iraqi military and security forces to assume full authority and responsibility in defending and preserving Iraq’s sovereignty and independence as a democracy.

Operation New Dawn officially came to an end Dec. 15, 2011.

Cyrier-Smith, a laboratory specialist attached to the 801st Medical Detachment, Chicago, has served more than three years in the military.

She is a resident of North 2600 East Road, Leroy.

Army Reserve Sgt. Justin Ellis

Army Reserve Sgt. Justin Ellis has returned to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., after being deployed to Iraq serving in support of Operation New Dawn.

Members from all branches of the U.S. military and multinational forces were also assisting in rebuilding Iraq’s economic and governmental infrastructure, and training and preparing Iraqi military and security forces to assume full authority and responsibility in defending and preserving Iraq’s sovereignty and independence as a democracy.

Operation New Dawn officially came to an end Dec. 15, 2011.

Ellis, a combat medic attached to the 801st Combat Support Hospital, Fort Sheridan, has served 12 years in the military.

The sergeant is a resident of Sunny Lane, Eureka.

Army Staff Sgt. John E. Long Jr.

 

Army Staff Sgt. John E. Long Jr. has returned to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., after being deployed to Iraq serving in support of Operation New Dawn.

Members from all branches of the U.S. military and multinational forces were also assisting in rebuilding Iraq’s economic and governmental infrastructure, and training and preparing Iraqi military and security forces to assume full authority and responsibility in defending and preserving Iraq’s sovereignty and independence as a democracy.

Operation New Dawn officially came to an end Dec. 15, 2011.

Long, a licensed practical nurse attached to the 801st Medical Detachment, Fort Sheridan, has served 33 years in the military.

The staff sergeant is a resident of 1500th Avenue, Lincoln.

Army Reserve Staff Sgt. Brian P. Murphy

Army Reserve Staff Sgt. Brian P. Murphy has been mobilized and activated at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., in preparation for deployment to serve in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and the Southwest Theater of Operations. The soldier is a member of the 108th Training Command, Charlotte, N.C.

The soldiers are normally activated from Army Reserve or Army National Guard units from throughout the United States. They go through a series of in-processing procedures and training classes that prepare them for skills and situations they may face in their deployed environment.

Operation Enduring Freedom is the official name given to anti-terrorism military operations involving U.S. troops and allied coalition partners. Active duty and reserve component members from all branches of the U.S. armed forces have been deployed to support the war against global terrorism outside the borders of the United States. U.S. troops serve in South and Southwest Asia, Iraq, the Arabian peninsula, islands in the Pacific, and Europe.

Murphy is a driver who has served 14 years in the military.

The staff sergeant is the son of Brenda L. Jennings of 1254th Avenue, Emden, Ill. His wife, Maribel V. Murphy, is the daughter of Maria F. and Jose Vargas of Monroe Avenue, El Paso, Texas.

Army Sgt. Steven K. Tordoff Jr. has returned to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., after being deployed to Iraq serving in support of Operation New Dawn.

Members from all branches of the U.S. military and multinational forces were also assisting in rebuilding Iraq’s economic and governmental infrastructure, and training and preparing Iraqi military and security forces to assume full authority and responsibility in defending and preserving Iraq’s sovereignty and independence as a democracy.

Tordoff, a licensed practical nurse attached to the 801st Combat Support Hospital, Fort Sheridan, has served three years in the military.

He is the son of Steve K. and Margaret M. Tordoff of Holiday Drive, Pekin. His wife, Alicia A. Tordoff, is the daughter of Kevin and Carol Rickelman of County Road 1300 North, Neoga.
