It’s a different day and a different message at the Illinois State Fair as Republicans took the stage.

Hundreds gathered at the Director’s Lawn on the state fairgrounds, mired in political buttons, fanning themselves with red fans, and there were even some hand-made anti-Obama signs in sight.

Pat Brady, the state’s Republican party chairman, spent a few minutes at the podium touting his party’s accomplishments since the 2010 election – and he says there’s only one way to make more gains.

“From today going forward, I pledge to you the focus, the only focus of the Republican Party in this state, is identify voters and turn them out at the polls,” Brady told cheering supporters. “That’s the only way that we’re going to beat the [House Speaker Michael] Madigan machine, and that’s what I pledge to you today as chairman of the Illinois Republican party.”

Brady says 2010’s gubernatorial candidate, State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington), lost by only a few thousand votes. Brady’s pending get out the vote campaign has a higher aspiration as well… defeating President Barack Obama in his home state next year.

Pat Brady stopped by WJBC after Republican Day at the State Fair to talk with WJBC’s R.C. McBride and Jim Fitzpatrick.  Listen to the complete interview below:
