Keeping cool in Central Illinois

As Central Illinois is in the midst of an excessive heat advisory, cooling shelters will remain open during regular business hours. The closest official cooling center is at the Department of Human Services at 501 W. Washington Street.
“Many of the state offices would allow people to come in,” said McLean County Emergency Management Agency Director Curt Hawk. “We also suggest places like the mall or library.”
Hawk said additional cooling centers will open as needed. He reminds residents to drink plenty of water and to check on elderly neighbors.
