Novelist Robin Cook is an expert at building thrillers around the emerging issues in medicine.

Cook, who has long advocated for health care reform, often finds a monetary incentive for many of his villains.

In his latest book, “Death Benefit,” the author tells the story of two Wall Street traders who are counting on the desperation of mounting health care costs to fuel a  money-making scheme.

Robin Cook tells Steve Fast that he often looks to real headlines in the issues of medicine and science to find the germ for a story, but he found his latest by also looking at the business section.
