NORMAL – Normal’s Town Council Monday night will consider the proposed recycling plan once again. And, for the first and possibly only time, the council will allow public comments on the proposal.
Town staff have proposed a new recycling system, at $2 more a month for users, using town issued bins much like what’s used for garbage. It would be a weekly collection, but the town staff also recommend keeping the drop off locations for apartment dwellers and those out of town.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. Some council members are expected to be absent.
Subway Cafe
There will only be one restaurant in the Uptown Station, and the Town Council will consider plans for a Subway Cafe. City Manager Mark Peterson said it’s a special design for the transportation station.
“They have a menu in the cafe that is different than a typical Subway. They will still serve sandwiches and potato chips and those kinds of things, but they have fresh baked goods in the morning with a variety of different coffees, including espresso,” Peterson said.
Under the proposal, the Cafe would also sell basic travel needs, such as tissues or batteries.
Peterson said Subway was the only business to submit a proposal, and he doesn’t think it will steal business from other restaurants in the Uptown.
