Normal West, Central Catholic victorious in Intercity tourney

The Normal West Wildcats outscored the Lady Iron of Normal Community 20 to 4 in the fourth quarter to pull away with a 50-27 win Saturday.

Rachel Weber led the way for the Wildcats with 16 points as West evened up its early season record at 2-2. Kayla Koening was the Lady Iron's leading scorer with 10 points in the loss as Normal Community remains winless on the season.

West, U-High Roll in Intercity Girls Tournament

BLOOMINGTON – Both Normal West and U-High secured wins in the Intercity Girls Basketball Tournament on Friday night.

The Wildcats defeated tournament host Bloomington 53-35, while the Pioneers took care of Normal Community 54-40.

Illinois Wesleyan men, intercity hoops on WJBC tonight

The Illinois Wesleyan men play their second game of the season Friday night at the Illinois College Bill Merris Tournament in Jacksonville.

Coming off a 99-70 win over Benedictine, the Titans take on MacMurray College at 5:30 p.m. You can hear the game on WJBC 1230 AM, 93.7 FM and WJBC.com.

U-High edges Bloomington, Central Catholic rolls in intercity tourney

BLOOMINGTON – Two Tatyana Peck free throws with 2 seconds left were the difference in U-High's 37-35 win Wednesday over Bloomington in the Intercity Girls' Basketball Tournament at the Robert Frank Sports Complex.

Normal West, U-High, area teams eliminated from playoffs

Danville 40, Normal West 27: Danville (10-1) avenged their only loss, defeating Normal West (10-1) 40-27 in the Class 6A second round on Saturday night in Normal.

Danville led 21-0 at halftime and 28-0 late in the  third quarter before the Wildcats finally dented the scoreboard with just over two minutes left in the third period.

Area teams prepare for Saturday second-round prep football

A rematch of a Big 12 Conference thriller highlights the second round of the high school football playoff scene.

Normal West (10-0) hosts rival Danville (9-1) in a Saturday night affair in Class 6A. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with the broadcast on WJBC at 6:45.

High School football week 2 playoff schedule

The schedule is being set for week 2 of the high school football playoffs:

6A Danville at Normal West, 7 p.m. Saturday

4A Chatham Glenwood at U-High (at Illinois Wesleyan), 3 p.m. Saturday

4A Prairie Central at Kankakee Bishop McNamara, 1 p.m. Saturday

2A Deer Creek-Mackinaw at Stark County, 1 p.m. Saturday

U-High, GCMS advance as others suffer big losses

The U-High Pioneers and GCMS Falcons were the only two local teams to advance Saturday in the IHSA football playoffs.

Bloomington, Central Catholic, Normal Community, El Paso-Gridley, Flanagan-Cornell-Woodland, Tri-Valley and Fisher all suffered tough losses to end their season in the first round.

Normal West, Dee-Mack, Prairie Central roll to shootout wins

Normal West scored five touchdowns on five of its first six drives and held off a second-half rally from Rock Island to prevail, 54-28, to advance to the 2nd round of the IHSA football playoffs.

The Wildcats (10-0) got five touchdown passes from Alex Jefferson, who threw for 329 yards on 16 of 25 attempts. Austin Stewart caught eight passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns. Michael Beasley-Hart hauled in four passes for 87 yards and three for scores.

High school football postseason begins tonight

Central Illinois is again well-represented as the high school football playoffs open tonight with limited action.

A dozen teams from the area are playing first round games this weekend, but only three are set for tonight.
