ELGIN - Former Illinois State standout Kristi Cirone is taking the next big step in her basketball career.
She was recently named the head women's basketball coach at Judson University, an NAIA school in Elgin. Cirone told WJBC Tuesday her playing time at ISU has molding her coaching style.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Eric Aguilera went 3-for-5 with three doubles and two RBI to lead Illinois State to a 10-3 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Championship opening-game victory against Evansville Tuesday morning at Hammons Field.
With the win, which was Mark Kingston’s 100th victory as ISU’s third-year head coach, the Redbirds will advance to play the winner of the Indiana State-Evansville game Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Illinois State baseball's series win at Evansville over the weekend earned the Redbirds a first-round Missouri Valley Conference matchup with those same Purple Aces.
Fourth-seeded ISU and No. 5 Evansville open the double-elimination tournament on Tuesday at Hammons Field in Springfield, Mo. The Redbirds are seeking their third MVC Tournament Championship.

Illinois State University Professor of Sport Management Chad McEvoy joined WJBC's R.C. McBride and Jim Fitzpatrick to discuss recent changes to the ISU basketball team since the hiring of new head coach Dan Muller.
Last week, it was confirmed that Anthony Beane Sr. will join the Salukis as an assistant coach next season. His son, Anthony Beane Jr., has been released from his National Letter of Intent to play with the Redbirds. Today it was officially announced that former Redbird Dana Ford is now part of the Illinois State men’s basketball staff.

NORMAL – Former Redbird Dana Ford is officially part of the Illinois State men's basketball staff.
Coach Dan Muller announced the assistant coach's hiring Monday.
Ford has served as an assistant coach at Wichita State, Tennessee State and Chipola Junior College. Muller has one more assistant coaching position left to fill.

COLUMBIA - The Illinois State Redbirds end the softball season on the final day of the NCAA Regional with a 2-1 loss to Missouri Sunday.
Junior Elizabeth Kay was 2-for-3 at the plate with Illinois State's only RBI. Senior Caiti Kopp and junior Jhavon Hamilton had two hits for the Redbirds.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Illinois State rallied from three runs down to tie Saturday’s game against Evansville in the ninth inning, and the Redbirds later beat Evansville, 8-7, in the 12th.
Ty Wiesemeyer drove in the winning run, to help ISU secure the No. 4 seed in next week’s State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship.
“I’m glad that we got the big hits when we needed them today,” Redbird head coach Mark Kingston said. “This team never gives up. Even though we were down, we just kept getting after it, and then it turned around for us.”

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Senior Jordan Birch tossed 16 shutout innings to lead the Illinois State softball team to a pair of NCAA Regional wins Saturday evening at University Field in Columbia, Mo. The Redbirds advanced to Sunday's Regional final by defeating Massachusetts, 1-0, in nine innings, before topping DePaul, 3-0 in the nightcap.
Birch notched both wins for ISU (37-22) inside the circle to improve to 25-13 on the season, as she outdueled UMass (38-13) starter Sara Plourde in the opener and DePaul's (36-22) Kirsten Verdun in the second game of the evening.
The Monroe, Wash., native lowered her ERA to 1.56 and has now recorded 233 strikeouts in 233.0 innings around just 41 walks, as she did not issue a free pass in her 16 innings of work Saturday night.
