Titan baseball beats Washington U. in NCAA Regional

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Freshman righthander Matt Hart provided eight strong innings to help the Illinois Wesleyan baseball team to a 3-2 win over Washington U. in the NCAA Division III Central Regional tournament on Thursday.

The Titans, who improved to 30-16, will play at 3:30 p.m. on Friday against a team to be determined by play in the regional later on Thursday.

IWU baseball loses regional to top seed

MILLINGTON, Tenn. – The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team lost its opening game in the NCAA Division III Central Regional, 7-4, to top-seed Birmingham Southern in Millington on Wednesday.

Illinois Wesleyan slipped to 29-16 for the season and will play next at 12 p.m. Thursday against No. 2-seed Washington U. (28-12). Wash U. fell to Webster, 11-5.

IWU’s Callahan wins 2nd CCIW Player of Year honor

NAPERVILLE - For the second straight year, Illinois Wesleyan's slugging junior infielder Kevin Callahan has been chosen Player of the Year for baseball in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while three teammates earned all-CCIW honors.

Callahan is joined on the first team by junior catcher A.J. Nathan and sophomore first baseman Bobby Czarnowski, while senior leftfielder Mark McDermott is the lone Titan representative on the second team.

UPDATED: IWU baseball reaches NCAAs, Titan softball ousted

BLOOMINGTON -  Illinois Wesleyan wasn't forgotten when it was time to hand out NCAA Tournament assignments.

Two seasons after the program's first national championship, IWU was granted an at-large bid to the tournament.

2012 Titan football recruits bring depth, experience

BLOOMINGTON - Impact players aren't hard to find in this year's Illinois Wesleyan football recruiting class.

In all, 23 players join the team on defense, with 23 on offense. Titan head football coach Norm Eash called the the class one of the best in his tenure at IWU.

IWU softball gets No. 1 seed, multiple honors

BLOOMINGTON - The Illinois Wesleyan softball team has been tabbed as the top seed in the Bloomington regional and will face St. Norbert at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 10th in the opening game of the NCAA Division III championships at IWU Field.

The Titans, with a record of 36-6, earned the automatic bid from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin after winning the league's tournament last weekend.

IWU softball wins CCIW tourney

BLOOMINGTON -- The Illinois Wesleyan softball team got the better of Carthage on Saturday afternoon.

In a back and forth game, with the CCIW championship and an automatic trip to the NCAA Division III regional on the line, the Titan women emerged as victors, 7-5.

The not so ‘Super Moon’ arrives this weekend!

Illinois Wesleyan University Professor of Physics Dr. Linda French joined WJBC's Jim Fitzpatrick to discuss the biggest full moon of the year this weekend.

The so-called "Super Moon" will make its debut on Saturday at 10:35 p.m., Central time. Such a moon occurs when it hits its full phase at the same time it makes its closest approach to Earth for the month. It's a lunar milestone known as perigee.

Horenberger-Bass Classic canceled

BLOOMINGTON - Tuesday’s Illinois State at Illinois Wesleyan game has been canceled because of wet field conditions.

For the second-consecutive year, rain has prevented the Horenberger-Bass Classic from being played. The game will not be made up.

Horenberger-Bass Classic, Cardinals on WJBC today

The Illinois State baseball team’s oldest rivalry resumes on Tuesday, when the Redbirds travel two miles south to play Illinois Wesleyan at Jack Horenberger Field. ISU (23-16) and IWU (23-12) will meet for the 154th time at 6 p.m. in the annual Horenberger-Bass Classic.

Illinois State leads the all-time series against Illinois Wesleyan, 83-70, with the two teams meeting in ISU's first-ever recorded baseball game in 1890. The Redbirds are 4-2 against the Titans since the annual game was renewed in 2004. However, the game has been canceled two times since the renewal, including last season, because of rain. Illinois State won the last meeting at IWU in 2010, 12-4.
