The debate over an online sales tax continues

Illinois Retail Merchants Association Vice President Rob Karr joins WJBC’s R.C. McBride and Jim Fitzpatrick to discuss a proposed online sales tax.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., was recently in Uptown Normal touting legislation he’s proposing requiring online retailers to collect sales tax owed under the current state law, regardless of whether or not the seller has a physical presence in the state. Durbin estimates Illinois loses $150 million a year from sales taxes not collected.
