On a lark, Dan Sinker started a spoof Twitter account under the guise that the tweets were those of former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.
The @MayorEmanuel account was a cartoon version of the famously profane Emanuel, who at the time, was running for mayor of Chicago.
Sinker remained anonymous during most of the run of the feed. As @MayorEmanuel’s tweets became a sensation he decided to push the boundaries of the medium.
Wired magazine lauded Sinker’s @MayorEmanuel feed as “the first truly great piece of literature to be produced using (Twitter).”
Sinker tells Steve Fast why he started the Twitter feed and how the project evolved.
