Some of Congressman Adam Kinzinger’s constituents aren’t happy about being out of work in Joliet. A dozen people rallied at Kinzinger’s south suburban office this morning. They demanded a meeting with Kinzinger about the Joliet area’s 10.5 percent unemployment rate. Uylonda Dickerson is in between factory jobs.

“We have too many people out here losing their houses, their jobs, their kids and losing everything. There are too many people out here and we’re trying to fight against this situation.”

Dickerson says the group is proposing Kinzinger hold a town hall or in-person meeting, but hasn’t had much success.

“They say he has meetings, but we haven’t heard about any meetings, so I don’t think that’s fair. We should be able to speak our voices, because all of us need to be heard.”

Brook Hougesen with  Congressman Kinzinger’s office said the Republican has held more than 20 town halls throughout the district, including five business roundtables focused on job creation. She says officials did offer to meet with the protesters today, but the group refused.
