BLOOMINGTON – The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is seeking input from Miller Park neighbors and the general public to help determine the long-term future of the zoo.

The Miller Park Zoological Society is funding the development of a master plan for the Zoo. This plan will create a road map for the development of Miller Park Zoo over the next 20 years. WDM Architects of Wichita, Kan., and Schultz and Williams of Philadelphia have been hired to develop the plan.

John Kennedy, director of the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department, said that this master plan is recommended.

“The Miller Park Zoo is a facility that is accredited by the Association of  Zoos and Aquariums,” said Kennedy. “The AZA strongly recommends having a good organizational strategic plan in place, so it’s part of their recommendations to go through a process like this.”

Citizens are invited to attend open meetings at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Feb. 28 at Miller Park Pavilion. The meeting provides Miller Park neighbors and the rest of the public an opportunity to ask questions, provide input and discuss the future of Miller Park Zoo with city officials and the architects hired to develop the master plan.
