State Farm Holiday Classic, CCHS, NCHS boys victorious

WJBC carried three games on the second day of the 36th annual State Farm Holiday Classic.  Games played on day two of The Classic began with the first game tipping off at 9:30 a.m. and the final game tipping off after 9:00 p.m.

 

Small School Boys Bracket

CCHS vs Saint Thomas More (@Normal West)

In the first game of the evening the Central Catholic Saints boy’s basketball team met Saint Thomas More. The Saints topped Saint Thomas More 58-55 in a day two meeting in the Small School Boys bracket.

CCHS’s Jake Reinhart led all scorers with 23 points.  John Rave also added 14 points in the Saints’ win.

CCHS returns to action Monday Dec. 29 against Kewanee in the final four of the Championship Bracket. The tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Shirk Center.

 

Small School Girls Bracket

CCHS vs Rockford Lutheran (@U.S. Cellular Coliseum)

The Central Catholic Saints started out in a 12-2 deficit to start the game, and despite a furious comeback, fell to the number four seed in the small school girls division Rockford Lutheran, 57-47.

The Saints were able to cut the Lady Crusaders lead to just two in the third quarter, but could never get out in front. Leading the way in scoring for Central Catholic was Lexi Davis who had a game high 20 points and Sydney Shanks with 18 points.

 The Saints move into the fifth place bracket, and will play at NCHS Monday at 11 a.m.

 

Large School Boys Bracket

Normal Community vs Rockton-Hononegah (@Normal West)

Top-seeded Normal Community and Rockton-Hononegah were back and forth in the first quarter. NCHS led just 11-7 after the first quarter.  The Iornmen used a 40 point second half to pull away en route to a 64-39 win over Rockton-Hononegah in the second day of the State Farm Holiday Classic in the Large School Boys Bracket.

The Iornmen were led in scoring by Tyler Seibring’s game high 25 points. Siebring stretched the floor showcasing his ability to shoot and emphatically dunk the basketball.

NCHS advance in the winner’s bracket of the Large School Boys division to play Edwardsville in the final four on Monday Dec. 29 at 6:00 p.m. at the Shirk Center.
