Titans take down No. 1 Augustana

ROCK ISLAND – The Illinois Wesleyan men’s basketball team downed No. 1 nationally ranked Augustana Vikings 89-84 in Rock Island in front of a crowd of 1,571.

With the win the Titans improve to 13-4 on the season and a 5-1 mark in the CCIW.

Augustana falls to 15-2, they are handed their first CCIW loss, and also hold a 5-1 mark in the CCIW.

The Titans were paced in scoring by senior guard Pat Sodemann who scored a game high 20 points.

The game was back and forth as the Vikings took an 8 point lead midway through the second half. IWU head coach Ron Rose used a timeout to rally his troops.

The Titans used a run sparked by the shooting of senior guard Jordan Nelson to take the lead and they didn’t look back.

Nelson finished the game with 19 points, 10 of which came from the free throw line, in his team’s win.

Augustana’s leading scorers were Ben Ryan and Hunter Hills who both scored 19.

The Titans return to action on Saturday as they travel to Elmhurst. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
