NORMAL – Illinois State head football coach Brock Spack and his staff will publicly announce the 2015 Redbird recruiting class at a National Signing Day party to be held inside the Hancock Stadium Club the evening of Feb. 4. The event is free of charge and open to the public, with light appetizers (while supplies last) and a cash bar provided.

The annual event will begin at 6 p.m., with a short meet-and-greet session before Coach Spack provides commentary and recruiting insight on the Redbird prospects, with video clips of the newest Redbirds available for viewing.  Parking will be made available in lots G73 and G83 adjacent to the stadium and the Ropp Agriculture Building.

“This is an event that we look forward to each year and has become a great tradition for us in our time at ISU,” Spack stated.  “We put in a lot of long hours traveling, meeting these recruits and their families, and the signing day party is a great cap to all of that work.  We can hardly wait to see everyone at the Hancock Stadium Club for the second time to talk with us about the newest Redbird Football players and enjoy a great event.”

Prior to the event, GoRedbirds.com will provide up-to-date signing day coverage for the 10th-consecutive year.  As each National Letter of Intent (NLI) is certified by the Illinois State Athletics Compliance Office, biographies of each ISU recruit will be updated on GoRedbirds.com.  In addition, RedbirdHD.tv subscribers will have exclusive access to a highlight video of each signee, with coaches’ comments available to view.

Fans wanting to be a part of the conversation on Twitter are urged to use the hashtag #RedbirdNSD, with constant updates and re-tweets coming from the @ISURedbirds account throughout the day.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

By Mike Matejka Because of COVID, there is no Labor Day Parade this year.  It’s always a great event for our everyday workers to march proudly down the street and enjoys the festive crowd. If there had been a parade, this year’s Labor Day theme was to be “150 years of struggle: your right to vote.” …

Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
