Not having health insurance will mean a hefty penalty when you file your taxes. The deadline to sign up is Sunday at midnight. Amanda Kozar with Get Covered Illinois says most people will be eligible for financial assistance.
"This year the people who signed up in the first month or so, 80 percent were eligible for financial help which is most people," says Kozar.
You can receive help with the signup process at Western Avenue Community Center throughout the weekend. You can also signup at get covered Illinois dot gov.
Kozar says you will need to have the full names and social security numbers of those in your family. You will also need proof of income. That would be a W-2 form, pay stub, or tax return. If you are going to a help center you should also bring in proof of income such as a utility bill.
