Stoinev to perform at ISU halftime

By Terry James

We still don't know if he'll be shirtless, but An ISU alum made famous on NBC's "America's Got Talent" will be performing at halftime at tonight's ISU basketball game.  Christian Stoinev  and his dog perform a hand balancing act.  Stoinev agreed to the performance many months ago.

"For people who did watch America's Got Talent they'll see a little bit of everything I did on that show," said Stoinev. "For people that haven't seen, I'm a hand balancer.  I pretty much balance upside down, I do different tricks with one arm or two arm positions and switch off and stuff like that."

Stoinev was a broadcast journalism major at ISU and hopes one day he can be a sportscaster.

Stoinev became known for performing with his shirt off on the television show, but says he still has not made up his mind if the shirt is coming off during halftime.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
