PONTIAC- Images of Pontiac have been featured in many national and regional publications, but parts of the city have now landed in a publication that will be seen by millions.

This year's Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition features pictures taken along the path of Route 66, and some of the shots were taken in Pontiac. Mayor Bob Russel says it wasn't anything the city went looking for. Pontiac's reputation as a Route 66 destination made Sports Illustrated want to shoot here.

Pontiac's famous Route 66 mural behind the Route 66 Museum, and the large Bob Waldmire mural on Main Street are backdrops for models Ariel Meredith and Ashley Smith. Russell says about 30 people were part of the photo shoot.  The images can be seen in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issues and at www.si.com.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
