Thelma Holderby
Thelma Eileen Holderby, 89, of Costa Mesa, Calif. for the past 42 years formerly of Bloomington passed away at 8:55 p.m. on Feb. 8 at Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center, Fountain Valley, Calif.
Her funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. Rev. Tyler Hari will be officiating. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. Burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Harbor Trinity Church 1230 Baker St, Costa Mesa, Calif. 92626 or Costa Mesa Senior Center 695 W. 19th St, Costa Mesa 92626.
She was born Aug. 3, 1925 in Normal the daughter of Sydney and Jessie Walker Webb. She married Wallace Victor Holderby on Sep. 5, 1942 in St. Louis.
He passed away on April 15, 2005.
Surviving are one son, James “Jim” (Reta) Holderby, Spring, Texas; one son-in-law, Steven G. (Sherry) Shipley, Towanda; grandchildren, Eric Holderby, Bloomington, Amy (Steven) Gula, Spring, Texas, Stacie Shipley, Bloomington, Stephanie (Gregory) Zabikow, Calgary, Alberta, Canada; great grandchildren, Megan, Austin, Nicholas, Ethan, Hayden, Benjamin & Nathalie; special friend Jose Cruz, Santa Ana, Calif.; several nieces and nephews also survive .
Preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Susan Kay Shipley.
Thelma had worked for State Farm Mutual Auto Insurance Company for 41 years. She began at State Farm Home Office in downtown Bloomington moved to the Illinois Regional Office in Bloomington when it opened. In 1972, she moved to Southern California Regional Office in Santa Ana. She finished her career as a Senior Claims Representative in the Orange County California Claims Service Office. She retired in 1988. She was a member of Harbor Trinity Church, Costa Mesa and the Navigators Sunday School Class. Thelma was a member of Ladies Auxilary VFW Post #454, Bloomington, Mountain Lakes Campgrounds in California. She was a member of several leather guilds across the U.S. She displayed leather work and assisted in judging at numerous national and international leather guild conventions. She enjoyed boating, camping, bowling, collecting and attending activities at the Senior Center in Costa Mesa. Thelma was a devoted wife and mother. After being widowed, she enjoyed both her church and senior center friends and activities.
