NORMAL- The beginning of a high school basketball game can't always be indicative of the rest of the night. However, Normal Community's 11-0 run to begin their contest with Mahomet Seymour Tuesday night set the stage for the rest of the evening. The Ironmen would take four 3 pointer's in the first quarter on their way to a 58-40 non-conference win in Normal to go to 25-1 on the year.

The first quarter ended with NCHS up 19-8 over the Bulldogs. Some stingy defense as well as some mental mistakes plauged the Bulldogs throuout the first half. Turnovers hurt any momentum Mahomet-Seymour tried to put together, as Normal Community maintained a double digit lead for much of the second quarter. NCHS would eventually go up by 14 at the halftime break, with a score of 30-16.

The second half started with a bit of a run from the Bulldogs, dropping the Ironmen lead down to 10. Senior Tyler Seibring hit three pointers on two consecutive drive to start an drive of their own, eventually balooning the Community lead to over 20. The third quarter completley belonged to the Ironmen, as they would go into the final quarter 45-28.

Normal Community used the majority of the fourth to run off time, as they would cruise to the win.

Normal Community had 2 players in double figures, led overall by Seibring finished with 25 points.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
