Redbirds snap three game skid, take down Bradley.

PEORIA-The Illinois State Redbirds men’s basketball team took the lead 7-5 at the 14:07 mark of the first half, on a score by senior guard Daishon Knight. They would not trail for the rest of the game en route to a 60-47 win over I-74 rival, Bradley Braves at Carver Arena in Peoria.

The Redbirds (16-11, 8-7) snapped a three game skid in the Missouri Valley Conference with help from Daishon Knight’s game high 15 points. Sophomore forward Reggie Lynch was credited with five blocks and freshman forward Deonte “Teddy” Hawkins had a team high nine rebounds.

Sophomore guard Paris Lee continued to play a role as defensive anchor, having six steals.

Guard Omari Grier paced the Braves with 10 points, while senior Auston Barnes added 9 rebounds.

ISU shot 44 percent from the field (23-52) including 5 three pointers.  Their rebounding woes continued as the Redbirds were out-rebounded 38-31.

Former starter Tony Wills and usual sixth man, Bobby Hunter did not see any playing time against the Braves.  Junior forward Will Ransom did not make the trip to Peoria.

This win marks the Redbird’s fourth MVC road win, which is the most in six seasons.

ISU has completed season sweeps over Missouri State, Drake, and Bradley.

The Redbird’s return to action Saturday at 7:00 p.m. the entertain Porter Moser’s Loyola Ramblers at Redbird Arena. Redbird Preview takes the air at 6:00 p.m. on WJBC AM 1230 and 93.7 NASH ICON.
