The Illinois State women's basketball team returns to Doug Collins Court for its last home weekend of the regular season.

ISU hosts Wichita State Friday at 7:05 p.m. Zach Dietmeier and China Antoine have the call on WJBC 1230 AM, the WJBC app and WJBC.com.

The Redbird baseball team is heading a little farther south than it had originally planned for this weekend's three-game series with Southeast Missouri State.

Originally scheduled as a Friday-Sunday series at SEMO's Capaha Field in Cape Girardeau, Mo., the series has been relocated to McNeese State's Cowboy Diamond in Lake Charles, Louisiana, due to eight inches of snow that covered SEMO's campus Sunday. In addition, more rain, snow and cold temperatures are in the forecast for this weekend.

The series will now begin with a 7 p.m. game Friday, followed by a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 3 p.m.

For the third week in a row, the Illinois State softball team is preparing for a five-game weekend in the warmer temperatures of the south. The Redbirds begin the weekend with games against Mercer and Kansas Friday at the University of Florida. The first game is at 9 a.m. The second game is set for 1:30 p.m. on WJBC.com.

Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
