Nancy J. Barnes, 72, of Bloomington, died at 10:35 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
Her memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Bloomington, where visitation will be one hour prior to services. The Rev. Ric Schneider will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded by Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude-Midwest Affiliate. She was born June 4, 1942 in Bloomington, daughter of Gaither and Veronica Coons Bray. She was preceded in death by her father, Gaither and her mother, Veronica Reece.
Surviving are one daughter, Diana Coquette Barnes of Bloomington; three sons, Michael Domonic (Wendy) Barnes of Manhattan, KS, Normand D. (Jessica Todd) Barnes Jr and Mitchell A. Barnes, both of Bloomington. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Bray of Chillicothe and two brothers, David Bray of Heyworth and Steven (Hermoine) Reece of Virginia Beach, VA.
Nancy worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for over 30 years in the Bloomington-Normal area, retiring in 2008.
She was very proud to be a member of St. Mary’s Church parish and a devote catholic. She volunteered much time to the Joplin, MO Tornado Relief and she often volunteered in town for many things.
Nancy will be missed deeply by her friends and family. She will be remembered for her love and care for her children, and especially for her grandchildren, whom she would care for as her own.
