NORMAL – The Central Catholic Girls were handled with relative ease by a single player Friday night, as Khadaizha Sanders and the Kankakee-Bishop McNamara Fighting Irish defeated the Saints 57-40 at the Class 2A semifinal at Redbird Arena.

Sanders began here scoring onslaught early on, getting the first 15 points for the Fighting Irish, while the Saints could only muster a single field goal through the first six minutes of play. At the end of the first, the Saints would trail 17-8.

Central Catholic would get their offensive game going in the second quarter, as multiple three pointers fell for Saints junior Lexi Davis and sophmore Kate Hordemann. CCHS would drop the Bishop Macnamara lead to single digits, only trailing at the half by 5, 24-19.

The Saint comeback would reach it's peak at the six minute mark of the third period, as they would tie the contest at 27. Unfortunately, the Fighting Irish would not let the Saints cut any further, and would extend the lead back out to nine at the end of the third 42-33.

Sanders would again own the Saints in the final quarter, finishing with 38 points, as the Saints couldn't keep up offensively.

Leading the Saints on the scoring front was Sydney Shanks with 13. CCHS will head into the third place game tomorrow night against the loser of tonight's game between Breese Central and Elmhurst IC Catholic.

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
