Helen Gustafson

Helen Gustavson, 96, of Bloomington died on Thursday, February 26, 2015, at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

Her Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at 10 a.m. at Historic St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Bloomington with Fr. Jeff Windy officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 9 a.m. until the time of her Mass at the church.   

Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Patrick’s Altar and Rosary Society.

Helen was born on Oct. 29, 1918, in Bloomington, a daughter of John and Mary (Styrczula) Staszecki. She married Robert S. Gustavson on Jan. 25, 1941, in Peoria at St. Mary’s Cathedral Chapel. He preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 2003.

Surviving are her children, Roberta (Anthony) Frigo of Florida, Dennis Gustavson of Bloomington, Janice (Jack) Buckalew of New Jersey, Robert (Candace) Gustavson of Bloomington, William Gustavson of Bloomington, Thomas (Karen) Gustavson of Missouri, Kathleen Gustavson of Arizona, Mary (John) Appelt of Vermont, and Eric Gustavson of Bloomington; a sister, Mary Engan of Bloomington; and a brother, Thomas Staszecki of Bloomington.

In addition to her husband, Robert, Helen was preceded in death by a son, Gregory.

Helen grew up in Bloomington where she attended St. Patrick’s Grade School. She was a long-time member of Historic St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Bloomington.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Helen will be deeply missed by her family.
