SPRINGFIELD – State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) called the state budget being proposed by Democrats “disappointing” and “unrealistic.”
House Speaking Michael Madigan is pushing a state budget which would result in a more than $3 billion deficit. Brady said passing such a budget isn’t even constitutional, although it’s been done before.
“They do have a super majority vote. The governor and we Republicans have done everything we can to talk about compromise and things that can be done,” he said.

Brady said there is not going to be a solution that is completely Republican or Democrat.
“But we also know that there is a solution that can move the state forward,” said Brady. “Instead the Democrats are taking the approach that they want to kick the can down the road.”
Madigan said they’re looking to Gov. Bruce Rauner to help raise taxes to make up the deficit. Brady said Illinois can’t solve its problems with tax increases.
“They’ve got to understand that if we don’t reform the playing field in this state for business, and schools, and cities, and others, we’re not going to be able to meet the priorities that we all want to meet for our people,” Brady said.
Sunday marks the last day of Illinois’ fiscal year.
