PONTIAC – An inmate at the Pontiac Correctional Center is accused of murdering his cellmate.

Michael Bragg, 34, has been indicted on six counts of first degree murder. Livingston County State’s Attorney Seth Uphoff says the charges stem from a fight in Dec. 2014.

Fabian Carrillo, 36, was found lying on the floor of his cell with a cord wrapped around his neck. Carrillo was then transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

The Livingston County Coroner ruled Carrillo, who was serving a sentence for murder, suffered multiple instances of blunt force trauma to the head and the cause of death was strangulation. Bragg, who is serving a 22-year prison sentence sexual assault charges out of Cook County, was Carrillo’s only cellmate.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
