PONTIAC – A grand jury issued a bill of indictment Thursday charging Michael Bragg, inmate at Pontiac Correctional Center, with six counts of first degree murder.

Bragg was serving 22 years for aggravated criminal sexual assault when his cellmate, Fabian Carrillo, was found unresponsive in their shared cell.

Livingston County State’s Attorney Seth Uphoff described the scene from Dec. 16, 2014.

“The two of them were housed together and during the middle of the night there was an incident that occurred and when the guards responded to the cell they found that Mr. Bragg had strangled and killed his cellmate,” he said.

Uphoff was a guest on Community forum with Todd Wineburner Friday. The full interview can be found at WJEZ.com.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
