Mary M. “Peggy” Carmack, 87, of Normal, passed away at 7:00 p.m. on June 8 at Meadows at Mercy Creek in Normal.

Her Celebration of Life service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington with Rev. Chris Workman officiating. Visitation will be from 11-1 p.m. prior to the service at the memorial home.

Inurnment will be at Park Hill Cemetery in Bloomington. Memorials may be made to Meadows at Mercy Creek Trinity Fund or St. Jude.

Peggy was born on Oct. 12, 1927 in Bloomington, a daughter of Ross and Elizabeth Green Cannon. She married William L. Carmack on Nov. 2, 1946 in Bloomington. He preceded her in death on May 31, 2013.

Surviving are two daughters, Lynda Carmack Lofgren of Peoria and Susan Carmack Milashoski of Normal; and a grandson, Adam A. Lofgren of Peoria.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Peggy was employed for many years as a secretary at Country Insurance.

She was a member of Park United Methodist Church.

Michael WaltonMichael Walton

Michael R. Walton, 66, of Bloomington, peacefully went home to be with his Lord at 3:52 p.m. June 3 at his home, with his family by his side.

His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Union Church, Bloomington, with Rev. Dr. Andrew Gifford officiating. Military rites will be accorded by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard.  Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church.   Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Luke Union Church Building Fund.

He was born June 27, 1948 in Beardstown, Ill. a son of Albert and Marcella Bowman Walton.  He married Linda “Lin” Shanks on Nov. 22, 1969 at the Bethany United Church of Christ in Tioga, Ill.  She survives in Bloomington.

Also surviving are a daughter, Leigh Anne (Kevin) Adkins of Danville; a son, Chad Walton of Bowie, Maryland; two grandchildren, Christopher Adkins and Kaitlin Adkins; a sister, Judy Nielsen of Eldridge, Iowa; a nephew, Brian (Staci) Nielsen of Davenport, Iowa; and a niece, Holly (Barry) Shaw of Eldridge, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his parents-in-law, Gene and Opal Shanks.

Mike served with the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War.  He graduated from Rushville High School in 1966, Western Illinois University in 1970 and earned master’s degree at Illinois State University. Mike was two credits shy of earning his doctoral degree.  He taught for thirty-five years and retired from the Area Vocational Center at Bloomington High School.  Mike was honored among our nation’s most respected teachers in the “Who’s Who of American Teachers” in 2002.  After retiring, he enjoyed the time he spent designing kitchens at Lowe’s.

Mike was a member of the Catlin Lions Club, where he held various offices over the years and was a long-time member of the Illinois Association of Electricity Electronics Educators (I.A.E.E.E.).  He was also a member of St. Luke Union Church in Bloomington where he served on several boards and committees, including the Building Committee.

Mike loved teaching, woodworking and cabinet-making.  He had a passion for people, a terrific sense of humor and a reputation as a jokester.

His grandchildren were the light of his life and he will be remembered as a great father, a terrific husband, a dear grandpa and a loving man.

Hilda WhitwoodHilda Whitwood

Hilda Marie Whitwood, 95, of Hudson, passed away at 2:52 a.m. on June 9 at her residence.

Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Hudson United Methodist Church in Hudson with Rev. Scott Carnes and Jason Collins officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday, both at the church. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.

Interment will be at Hudson Township Cemetery in Hudson. Memorials may be made to Hudson United Methodist Church, Salvation Army or Advocate Hospice.

Hilda was born on Feb. 24, 1920 in Hoffman, Illinois, a daughter of Gerhart and Mary (Lueking) Sprehe. She married Donald E. Whitwood on July 15, 1939 in Bloomington. They celebrated 65 years of wonderful memories together. He preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 2006.

Surviving are her children, Jim (Diane) Whitwood of Towanda, Don (Minnie) Whitwood of Salt Springs, Fla., Nancy (Gene) Williams of Ellsworth; 10 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 11 brothers and sisters.

Hilda enjoyed her family and many friends, flower gardening and was an avid Chicago White Sox fan. She enjoyed many years of golf and bowling and received numerous trophies and awards.

She and Donald ran a trucking business, and then farmed together for 45 years. She also worked at Darlene’s Dress Shop and modeled clothing.

Hilda was a member of Hudson United Methodist Church and the church women’s group for 62 years where she was the eldest member of each. Hilda was a member of the El Paso Golf Club, Bloomington Elks, Hudson History Club and the McLean County Farm Bureau.

She was known as the ‘Hudson Lady’ who baked wonderful chocolate angel food cakes and also for her sense of humor and telling funny stories and jokes.

Hilda received 165 birthday cards this year for her 95th birthday and she enjoyed receiving and reading each one.

The family would like to extend a thank you to Hilda’s special care giver and Advocate BroMenn Hospice. Also, a very special thank you to Jason Collins for always being there for her and the family.
