LEROY – The Traveling Vietnam Wall is coming to LeRoy. The replica of the actual wall in Washington, D.C. will be on display at Kiwanis Park July 23-26.
“It travels throughout the United States and is on display 24 hours a day, free of charge wherever it’s at,” steering committee co-chair Steve Vollmer told WJBC’s Dan Swaney. “It’s a chance for veterans and family members of veterans to get to go to the wall who otherwise might not make it to Washington, D.C.”
Veteran Lynn Shindler said the Quilt of Tears will also be on display. The quilt was started by Jennie Lefevre.
“Her husband Gerald died from Agent Orange in 1989 and she the Quilt of Tears with these 20 inch squares that represent soldiers affected by Agent Orange, either living or dead,” Shindler said.
Handicapped parking is available across the street from Kiwanis Park with shuttles to and from the wall. Regular parking is available at LeRoy High School.
The wall is coming to LeRoy to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War.
