Lame duck bill now law

SPRINGFIELD – You could call it “Lou’s Law.”

Inspired by a $160,000-a-year appointment outgoing Gov. Pat Quinn gave his campaign manager, State Sen. Julie Morrison sponsored a bill reining in lame duck appointments.

“I couldn’t believe that he did that, and, moreover, I was just appalled that this has happened before,” Morrison said.

Lou Bertuca now is executive director of the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority.

Under the new law, this sort of appointment would be limited to sixty days if the governor is in the final ninety days of his time in office.

Morrison is of the opposite party of the current governor but is glad they agree on this.
