On a night in which Mother Nature limited much of the high school gridiron action, there was nothing limiting Central Catholic and Pekin and they surged to week two victories.

Pekin 48, Bloomington 27
BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington High School Purple Raiders fell to 0-2 on the season with a 48-27 loss to Pekin at Fred Carlton Field. The Raiders led 13-0 at the 6:29 mark of the second quarter when the weather delayed the game.
After the delay, Pekin scored 21 unanswered points to end the half, making the halftime score 21-13. Pekin came out of the locker room hot as they scored 19 more points to go on a 40-0 run to build a 40-13 lead in the third quarter.
Pekin’s effort was led by quarterback, Nick Campbell who had three passing touchdowns and two rushing.
BHS was led by Brent Finley who had two receiving touchdowns.
BHS (0-2) will travel to LaSalle-Peru for week three of the high school football season.
Central Catholic 31, U-High 12
NORMAL – Central Catholic (1-1) snapped a four game skid against cross town rival, U-High (1-1), downing the Pioneers 31-12 at Hancock Stadium.
CCHS’ second drive of the game was halted in the redzone as the skies opened and a lightning delay kicked in. After just over two hours, play resumed.
CCHS’ was not fazed by the lengthy delay as they scored on the first play from scrimmage. The Saints scored 31 straight points highlighted by two scores by Brett Segobiano.
Segobiano, a running back for CCHS, scored on an 80 yard run as well as 45 yard half-back pass.
U-High had not lost since during the regular season since 2011. The Pioneers were on a 29 regular season game win streak.
CCHS will travel to Eureka next week, while U-High will play visitor to IVC.
