CHICAGO – A Republican strategist predicts Donald Trump will start to drop in the polls in the presidential race after what he considered to be a poor showing by Trump in this week’s debate.
PODCAST: Listen to Scott’s interview with Brady on WJBC.
“He’s a carnival barker, entertainer, clown,” former Illinois Republican Party chairman Pat Brady said. “But the good news is from the Republican perspective, I think the moment he patted Curly Fiorina on the head and said ‘You are beautiful’, which usually gets you slapped… she his very disciplined and I thought that was the proper way to handle it.”
Brady told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin Trump appears to have no campaign organization in Illinois and will have some work ahead of him just to get on the ballot.
“Even in Illinois, you have to get 20,000 signatures, you have to get a slate of delegates, you have to put together an organization yet and he hasn’t started here yet and it has to be filed by January.” Brady said.
Brady added Trump hasn’t shown much interest in the grassroots politicking that’s considered essential in early voting states Iowa and New Hampshire.
Brady said Trump didn’t do himself any favors when he didn’t refute a comment from someone at a rally that President Obama is not American and is a Muslim. Brady said Trump should have refuted the remark, just as John McCain did what he faced took a similar comment on the campaign trail.
“Even people like me who aren’t supporters of the Obama administration were angry with that question and the proper response for anyone who’s going to be Commander in Chief is ‘That’s ridiculous’,” Brady said.
