BLOOMINGTON – Four of the five Intercity high school football teams were victorious Friday night.
Undefeated Normal Community won its 20th straight game against Big 12 Conference foes with a 49-14 victory over Bloomington at NCHS.
Meanwhile, Central Catholic took over sole possession of the Corn Belt Conference lead with a 38-21 win at Pontiac, while University High topped Prairie Central in Fairbury, 28-18, in the Corn Belt and Normal West zipped Peoria Richwoods in Peoria, 49-25, in Big 12 play.
NCHS (5-0, 3-0) scored on all six first-half possessions to take 42-7 halftime lead.
Riley Rahuba caught 25-yard touchdown pass from Grant Price to end the half.
Grant Price completed 14 consecutive passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns. Dakota Creemens rushed for 101 yards.
BHS is winless in five games overall and two in the Big 12.
In other Big 12 action, Normal West piled up 502 yards in offense – 174 rushing and 329 passing – to move its overall record to 3-2 and Big 12 mark to 1-1 against winless Richwoods.
The Wildcats scored on seven of their first nine possessions and were aided by the fact Richwoods turned the ball over on downs four times in West territory.
Dante Ruffin scored five touchdowns – four rushing and one receiving – and had 254 yards in total offense. He rushed for 104 yards and had 150 in receiving. Quarterback Mitch Fairfield completed 11 of 21 passes for 329 yards and two touchdowns.
Central Catholic jumped out to a 17-point lead in the second quarter and cruised to its fourth win in five games. The Saints are undefeated in four Corn Belt games, while Pontiac dropped to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the league.
Brett Segobiano and Ryan Zitkus combined for 361 yards and two touchdowns. Segobiano had 261 yards and one touchdown, while Zitkus added 100 yards and one touchdown.
Other Central scores came from quarterback Jake Baughman on an 11-yard run and a 19-yard pass to Andrew Einck; C.J. Sandoval on an 18-yard run and a 29-yard field goal by Max Moews.
The Saints’ defense limited Pontiac to 53 yards rushing and forced four turnovers.
Also in the Corn Belt, U High moved its record to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the league as Jo Jo Hughes rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns. Prairie Central dropped to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the league.
Quarterback Doug Holmes got the Pioneers on the scoreboard first with a 2-yard run in the first quarter and Hughes extended the lead to 14-0 at half with a 3-yard touchdown run.
Both teams scored in the third quarter as Prairie Central’s Corban Roberts had a 5-yard scoring run and Hughes hit paydirt from seven yards out.
Prairie Central cut the lead to 21-14 in the fourth quarter on a 16-yard run by Luke Sieving, who finished with 234 yards, before U High’s Nate Robinson sealed the victory by returning the ensuing kickoff 74 yards for a score.
