BLOOMINGTON – For his play in the Titans’ comeback win at Carthage, Illinois Wesleyan senior wide receiver Artie Checchin was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for football in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin on Monday.

Checchin recovered an onside kick that led to the game-winning touchdown during the Titans’ 21-17 come-from-behind win over Carthage on Saturday. Checchin made two touchdown catches along with the onside kick in the final 1:19 and finished with 10 catches for 150 yards and two touchdowns on the day. His 18-yard TD catch came with 1:19 left and cut the Red Men lead to 17-15. Following his onside kick recovery, he added a 10-yard TD catch with 10.7 seconds left for the win.

It is the third time in his career for Checchin to win the CCIW Special Teams honor. In 2014 he was CCIW honoree on Nov. 1 when he had five kick returns for 99 yards (19.8 yard average) with a long of 27 yards against North Central and also earned the honor on Sept. 8 for his play against Franklin when he had 100 yard kickoff return , the longest in IWU history.

Illinois Wesleyan will host Millikin on Saturday.

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
