ST. LOUIS – Senior defensive back Abby Van Deventer has earned Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week accolades, as announced by the MVC Tuesday.

The award is Van Deventer’s second of the season and the seventh of her career.

Van Deventer and the ISU defense were strong again last week, allowing two goals in two matches. Van Deventer was her usual self, shutting down attacks against Loyola and Oklahoma. She helped hold Loyola scoreless for 84 minutes and then played a major role in holding Oklahoma to just one goal. The Sooners entered the match with 26 goals on the season – an average of 2.2 per game.

This is the third player of the week award that the Redbirds have earned this season. ISU will next play at Northern Iowa Saturday at 7 p.m.

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
