We’ve had another mass shooting in America and the first thing our President does is get on his stump and claim; this is why we need strict gun control laws. He said “once again, innocent people were killed in part because someone who wanted to inflict harm had no trouble getting their hands on a gun”. He also said: “There are scores of responsible gun owners in this country” who want “gun legislation”.
Well Mr. President, there are five million responsible gun owners who do not.
I believe this was the 15th shooting of this kind since you have been president and almost every time you claim this is why you want more gun control legislation or flat out gun confiscation as you alluded to this past week.
While you claim that these killings are the result of people having guns, you fail to mention; that for every one of the shootings you point out, there are hundreds of incidents where people’s lives were saved because “responsible gun owners” used their guns to, in your words: “prevent this carnage from being inflicted someplace else in America”.
Let me explain a big part of the problem.
It was your Vice President that crafted legislation back in the early 90s that through its many revisions, created: Violent Crime Zones. The Violent Crime Zone Act provides significant punishment for responsible citizens who would protect themselves or others in areas of the Violent Crime Zone.
Violent Crime Zone signs were posted at public places first but then businesses started using the signs to let everyone know violent crimes could be committed there. Like the Century 16 Movie theater in Aurora Colorado and the Chattanooga Tennessee Marine recruiting office.
Mr. President, if you are serious about trying to prevent such occurrences as the 15 mass shooting that have happened on your watch. Then get rid of the Violent Crime Zones and the effect they have on responsible citizens.
Oh, did I not describe what the Violent Crime Zone sign looks like?
You’ve seen them: The red circle with a bar across it and an image of a hand gun in the middle.
