IWU contains Frasco, Vikings in road win

ROCK ISLAND – Maurice Shoemaker-Gilmore scored on two long touchdowns in an otherwise defensive slugfest as the Titans defeated Augustana, 21-7, at Lindberg Stadium.

After the Vikings tied the score midway through the first quarter, Shoemaker-Gilmore returned the ensuing kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown to give IWU a 14-7 lead.

Wesleyan kept Augie off the board in two red zone chances late in the second quarter, once on a missed field goal.

Shoemaker-Gilmore broke free for a 55-yard run off an option pitch from Jack Warner to put the Titans ahead 21-7 with 12:19 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Shoemaker-Gilmore finished with a game-high 75 rushing yards on nine carries and 196 all-purpose yards.

Augustana’s Sam Frasco, who was second in NCAA Division III in total offense before the game, was limited to 131 passing yards (16 of 28, one interception) and 27 rushing yards on 12 carries.

Wesleyan improves to 6-0, 3-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, while the Vikings fall to 2-4, 2-1 in the CCIW. The Titans visit Elmhurst next Saturday.
