Illinois Wesleyan ranked No. 24 in preseason hoops poll

BLOOMINGTON – The Illinois Wesleyan men’s basketball team is picked No. 24 in the preseason rankings done by D3hoops.com and announced on Thursday.

The Titans (20-9 last season) earned 129 points from voters and are one of three teams from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin in the top 25. Augustana (27-5 in 2014-15) is the preseason No. 1 with 623 points and 23 of 25 first place votes while Elmhurst (20-8) got 356 points and is No. 8.

Augustana is followed by Virginia Wesleyan, Whitworth, St. Thomas and Amherst in the top five and Amherst collected the other two first-place votes. Defending champion Wisconsin-Stevens Point is No. 9 while North Central from the CCIW was among the “others receiving votes”.

Ranked teams on the Titan nonconference schedule are No. 13-ranked Ohio Wesleyan (22-6) at the Shirk Center on Nov. 28 and No. 17 University of Chicago on the road Dec. 14. Washington U. (Dec. 5 at the Shirk Center) is among “others receiving votes”.

Illinois Wesleyan opens its season on Saturday, Nov. 14 with a 7 p.m. home game against Benedictine.

The D3hoops.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, sports information directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly.
