NORMAL – The Normal CornBelters have announced they have re-signed Field Manager Brooks Carey for the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
The CornBelters are coming off their best season in franchise history and their first ever West Division Championship. They will play the first home game of their sixth season on Friday, May 13 at 6:35 p.m. versus the Joliet Slammers.
In Carey’s third season as the Manager, he led the team to a 61-35 record which was five games better than the second place River City Rascals. With the CornBelters, Carey has a career record of 155-132.
“I appreciate the trust that Steve (Malliet) and the organization has shown in me. I am motivated to keep this team a winner both on and off the field,” said Carey. “With a lot of hard work and all of us working together we can keep getting better every year. I can’t wait to get back to my second home in Bloomington–Normal.”
The 2015 season saw the first ever back-to-back winning seasons in CornBelters history. In 2014, Carey’s second season as the manger, the CornBelters finished 48-47.
“We are thrilled to have Brooks back with us! He has established the CornBelters as a winning team and a fun team to watch,” said CornBelters President/General Manager Steve Malliet. “Signing Brooks to a multi-year agreement signifies Brooks’ commitment to the Bloomington-Normal community and to our great fans!”
In 2013, Carey’s first season at the helm, the CornBelters finished with 46 wins. He served as the CornBelters Pitching Coach in 2010 and 2011 under former Field Manager Hal Lanier. The team posted a 96-102 record during that time, and Carey’s pitching staff tallied a 4.10 ERA (2010) and 3.92 ERA (2011).
Prior to his first stint with the CornBelters, Carey won the 2008 Can-Am League Championship as Pitching Coach for the Sussex Skyhawks. He was a starting pitcher in his playing days, and he reached AAA with both the Rochester Red Wings and Indianapolis Indians in 1985.
