Evelyn “Jean” Kaufman, 69 of Covell, passed away on Nov. 15 at 2:40 a.m. at her home surrounded by her family after a short battle with cancer.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington with Gary Brady Jr officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Dale Township Fire Department.

Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington is in charge of arrangements.

Jean was born on July 13, 1946 in Bloomington the daughter of Kenneth and Frances Weakley Burkhart. She married Marvin Kaufman on July 14, 1963 in Covell.

Jean is survived by her husband Marvin, her daughters; Marjorie (Steve) Johnson, Minier, Janet (Joe) McClintock, Bloomington, Marla (Gary Jr) Brady, Normal, grandchildren; Morgan and Miranda Schultz, Danielle, Nick and Zack McClintock, Alex, Ashleigh, Ally and Andrew Brady and two step grandchildren, Siblings; Kay (Stan) Ralph, Florida, Kenny Roe (Bev) Burkhart, Oklahoma, Mary (Roger) Sigler, Normal, Irene Haning, Missouri and George Burkhart Covell.

Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother sister and aunt. She spent her life taking care of all her loved ones. While never one to be in the spotlight, she worked endlessly to support her family and friends and could always be counted on.

Jean and her husband camped at Hickory Hills Campground for over twenty-five years where they met many of their closest friends and she was a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge 173. In addition to being her family’s matriarch, she was extremely creative and could fix just about anything, especially with duct tape and super glue. For everyone who knew Jean well the family would like you to know, that this was not Marvin’s fault.
